What would you say is your symbol?
Is it the accessory you wear every day, or perhaps a friendly person might say it's their smile.
Now, if asked, "What is the symbol of your town?" what would your answer be?
Is it a famous building in the area, a gymnasium where everyone gathers, or perhaps a place frequently used as a meeting point, even if you have no business there?
Looking up 'symbol' in an English dictionary gives you 'emblem, representation, sign, mark'.
However, in Japanese, 'symbol' can also mean landmarks or well-known spots, like the example of the second building, or even logos of famous chain stores.
Moreover, when you slightly alter it to 'symbolic', it seems to broaden its meaning.
