Explore the depths of creativity and thought processes of creators worldwide with 'ISSUE'. A source of new inspiration. In 'ISSUE #33', we introduce Eikichi, the official curator of the photo contest 'Night Eyes' hosted by cizucu, who captures urban landscapes and street snaps primarily in Tokyo.
Photographer Eikichi captures diverse landscapes primarily in Tokyo. His photos range from the hustle and bustle of the city to the tranquility of nature.
Passion for Creativity Sparked by iPhone
"I started by casually taking photos with an iPhone 11. It began with a simple desire to capture beautiful landscapes," Eikichi recalls. As he continued to share his photos on Instagram, he encountered works by talented photographers, which sparked a strong desire to expand his range of expression. As a result, he acquired a Canon EOS R5.

Realistic Expression Close to the Naked Eye
"The reason I chose Canon is simply because it faithfully reproduces colors," Eikichi explains. "Capturing the world as seen with the naked eye, with unaltered colors, was the decisive factor in choosing Canon cameras. Through photography, I want to convey a sense of being there to the viewer. Canon cameras can encapsulate that reality in photos."

From Twilight to Nightfall
"What I value most in photography is capturing the atmosphere of the moment. Through sunsets and nightscapes, I want to imbue photos with the tranquility and vibrations of the scene. For instance, a sunset quietly signals the end of the day, while a nightscape captures the city's silence," he says. For Eikichi, photography is a means of communicating emotions and the ambiance of a place.

Among the various landscapes he photographs, Eikichi is particularly drawn to sunsets and nightscapes. "A sunset marks the end of the day, while a nightscape heralds the beginning of a new world of light. It's a moment where you can feel the extraordinary in the everyday," he passionately explains. Each light in a nightscape tells a story of people's lives, which is one reason Eikichi is drawn to capturing them. "The lights in a nightscape seem to tell small stories, and there's a deep allure in that," he says.

In Search of Scenery and Encounters
"I want to continue focusing on sunsets and nightscapes while also challenging myself with other subjects," Eikichi says enthusiastically. "In the future, I hope to hold my own photo exhibition and eventually publish a photo book. Through photography, I want to create works that evoke special emotions in viewers."

The charm of photography lies in sharing the scenery you see, while the allure of exhibitions is in the encounters with people through the viewing experience. "Through photography, I want to capture new landscapes and create a chain of new encounters through each recorded image," he shared his aspirations. We can't take our eyes off Eikichi's future endeavors.
