photo poster project | A Moment to Appreciate Photography by YuKoreeda | ISSUE #44

The 'photo poster project' organized by cizucu has been held across various locations since the end of last year. By simply submitting photos to cizucu, you can participate in the photo poster exhibition and meet new photographer friends.
This time, we spoke with creator YuKoreeda, who participated in the photo poster project.

Please Introduce Yourself!
Hello, my name is Koreeda. I am based in Tokyo but travel domestically and internationally to take photos. Influenced by my studies in archaeology at university, I enjoy capturing cultural and historical places or events that form the roots of modern humanity. Nice to meet you!
What Inspired You to Participate?
All the photos I take now are digital, but I have a childhood friend who loves photography. There was a time when we experimented with her father's film camera to take interesting photos. Since then, I've always wanted to print my photos eventually.
I also have experience in art sales and working in galleries, and I simply love the atmosphere of exhibitions. Having only experienced the selling side, I wanted to feel what it's like to be a participant.

How Was Your Experience Participating?
Initially, I was nervous seeing people in front of my work. However, as I started talking to attendees, I heard unexpected stories behind the artworks and received feedback on my work, which made the interaction purely enjoyable.
Seeing printed works in person sparked many questions, and I felt that it left a much stronger impression than viewing works on social media.
Why Did You Choose That Particular Piece?
When I decided to show my first large poster print to others, I wanted to choose a special piece for me.
I used to find it challenging to photograph people, but this photo represents my personal breakthrough: 'It's fun to photograph people while considering their backgrounds.' It undoubtedly set my photographic path and, though it sounds dramatic, changed my life, so I chose it.

For Those Considering Joining the photo poster project
Whether you want to print photos, exhibit them, or make camera friends, this event encourages you to take the first step!
During the gallery talk, everyone listened intently to each other's stories, and I felt the participants' genuine personalities. After the exhibition, I felt more motivated and realized it was a time when I truly appreciated doing photography!
