Explore the creative minds and thoughts of creators worldwide with 'ISSUE'. A source of new inspiration. In 'ISSUE #23', we introduce sukko, the official curator of the photo contest 'Winter Magic' hosted by cizucu, an award-winning photographer expanding #HiroshimaGoodVibes.
A Journey with the Camera Starting from Admiration
Born in 1975 in Hiroshima, photographer sukko began his journey with the camera as a 'chance encounter'. In the 90s, film was the mainstream in photography. The job of a photographer was fresh and perhaps an unknown world. However, sukko was drawn to its unknown charm, meeting and becoming familiar with the camera through his work in the advertising industry.
Unlike today, where information is readily available, sukko learned hands-on, taking each shot with care. From the beginning, he valued 'feeling' over technique. As the era transitioned to digital, his photography evolved.
The Joy and Freedom of Shooting Freely
With the advent of digital cameras in the 2000s, sukko initially struggled to adapt from film to digital techniques. However, through Instagram, he discovered new photographic expressions and felt liberated, changing his approach to photography.
Instagram opened a new perspective for sukko. It became a platform where countless amazing photos are shared, allowing individuals to freely edit and express their photography, significantly changing his values.
Inspired by Instagram, sukko immersed himself in photography again, pursuing more creative expressions, such as using stained glass stickers on lenses to create fantastical landscapes.
Embracing the Colors of Hiroshima
sukko's photos capture the enchanting landscapes of Hiroshima, a place he loves. His work records adventures to discover new facets of Hiroshima, beyond its famous tourist spots.
One of sukko's recommended spots in Hiroshima is the 'Sera Kogen Farm', where cosmos and autumn leaves create a magical landscape in the fall.
Encountering Magical Landscapes
Finally, we asked sukko, the official curator of the 'Winter Magic' photo contest, about the charm of winter photography. He shares that the magic lies in encountering one's unique landscape amidst harsh snowy environments.
He often ventures into the mountains after a snowfall, capturing the moment when the sun rises and the snow sparkles, describing it as indescribably beautiful.
Despite the challenges and dangers of winter photography, sukko hopes to encounter magical stories through the contest. He hopes you enjoyed his interview and found new ideas for the 'Winter Magic' photo contest. The deadline is February 17, 2024!
