3i Corporation has launched HARMAN Photo’s color negative film “HARMAN Phoenix 200” on December 2, 2023. The retail price is 2,585 yen (tax included).
This ISO 200, 35mm color negative film (36 exposures) is the first color film in history to be manufactured entirely in-house by HARMAN, from emulsion to cassette.
HARMAN’s First Foray into Color Film
Just as the phoenix appears in mythology, “HARMAN Phoenix 200” was conceived as a new film symbolizing hope, renewal, and transformation. As the company’s inaugural color film, it retains a certain artisanal quality, but HARMAN’s vision is to continually evolve their color film line by reinvesting sales into refining formulations, coating capabilities, and color technology.
Characterized by distinctive grain and vibrant hues, this film delivers a unique analog aesthetic, especially when shot in bright light. However, it is important to note that halation may occur under intense sunlight or backlighting. For optimal results, metering for mid-tones is recommended to faithfully capture both shadow and highlight details.
Processing is C-41. The cassette is equipped with a DX code and supports push and pull processing from ISO 100 to 400.
