Latest Firmware for 'α1' and 'α9 III' Released, C2PA Support and Network Enhancements | Sony

Sony has released the latest firmware for mirrorless cameras 'α1' and 'α9 III'. Announced on April 24, 2024.

The updates for 'α1' include improvements in network connectivity issues that occurred in Ver2.00. Additionally, issues with incorrect FTP image transfers have been fixed.

The 'α9 III' now supports the format as announced on March 28, 2024, with the new firmware. Additional features include relay playback between media, breathing compensation, and direct upload to the 'Creators' Cloud'.

Details of the update are as follows.

α1 (Ver. 2.01)

Support for Mobile Applications

  • Support for Creators' App.
  • The Creators' App allows image transfer from the camera to a smartphone and remote shooting, with additional features.
  • Support for Monitor & Control.


Additional Shooting and Playback Features

  • Relay playback between media is now possible.
  • Support for breathing compensation.
  • Support for synchronized release function, allowing multiple sub-cameras to shoot in sync with the main camera's shutter timing.
  • Focus frame is displayed on the Remote Camera Tool screen when the monitor and viewfinder are off.
  • Support for coordinated control of body and lens image stabilization.
  • Ability to filter images for playback using multiple conditions such as FTP transfer status.
  • Maximum of 9,999 images can be recorded in one folder number.
  • Support for time code input via multi/micro USB terminal. Connect the device to synchronize time codes.
  • Support for registering/switching multiple IPTC Presets.
  • Support for format. (License provision timing is undecided)
    • Ability to display custom grid lines.

  • Additional FTP Transfer and Network Features
    • Direct upload of camera images to Creators' Cloud.
    • Automatic FTP transfer reservation for protected videos and still images.
    • Automatic protection of transferred videos/still images via FTP.
    • Ability to prioritize specified images for FTP transfer.
    • Support for USB streaming function.
    • Added SFTP to secure protocols.
    • Wi-Fi security now supports WPA3-SAE.
    • Enhanced security features for remote shooting and image transfer connections from Creators' App and Imaging Edge Desktop.

    • Improved issues where network connection might not be possible.
    • Improved issues where images might not be transferred correctly via FTP.
    • Improved issues where folder name settings for saving still images revert to default (MSDCF) after battery removal.
    • Improved issues where time code might not be retained after power OFF/ON.
    • Improved exposure stability with extended ISO during video shooting.
    • Enhanced functionality and operational stability.


α9 III (Ver. 2.00)

Additional Shooting and Playback Features

  • Ability to connect the camera and computer via wired LAN for remote ON/OFF control of the camera.
  • Automatic creation of still images from video frames with shot marks after shooting.
  • Ability to use shutter speeds up to 1/80000 seconds with aperture values of F1.8 or higher in all drive modes and noise reduction shooting.
  • Relay playback between media is now possible.
  • Support for synchronized release function, allowing multiple sub-cameras to shoot in sync with the main camera's shutter timing.
  • Focus frame is displayed on the Remote Camera Tool screen when the monitor and viewfinder are off.
  • Maximum of 9,999 images can be recorded in one folder number.
  • Wi-Fi signal strength is displayed.
