Canon has been considered reluctant to open the RF mount license. However, on April 23, 2024, lens manufacturers Sigma and Tamron announced the release of lenses compatible with Canon's RF mount. There is no specific announcement from Canon yet. However, this move will provide new options in the RF mount lens market, which Canon has independently developed so far.

Third-party Lenses Bring Fresh Air to the Lens Market

Sigma plans to release six lenses covering wide-angle to medium telephoto, and Tamron plans to release one ultra-wide-angle lens. All these lenses are compatible with the APS-C format, aiming to meet diverse shooting needs.

Both lenses incorporate the latest technology to support high-speed autofocus (AF), continuous autofocus (AF-C), in-camera aberration correction, and in-camera image stabilization.

These features reflect the market's demands for the latest lenses. They are expected to provide an excellent shooting experience for users while maintaining compatibility with the latest cameras. These advanced technologies are integrated into the lenses to meet the needs of photographers who value not only price but also performance.

Diversifying Lens Options

With Canon opening the RF mount to third-party manufacturers, more Canon users will have access to lens options. New user influx is also expected.

This will stimulate new creativity and expand shooting possibilities for camera users using Canon's RF mount. Sigma's lenses are scheduled to be released sequentially from July 2024, and Tamron's lenses are also scheduled for release within the same year.
