Introduction
Photographer Kousuke Shimasaki, who expresses a new worldview with his unique digital techniques, will hold his long-awaited solo exhibition 'Chain of memories / 記憶の連鎖' from January 14 (Sun) to January 28 (Sun) at the café tefu lounge Shimokitazawa attached to "grass".
Photography continues to evolve as a medium that captures and preserves parts of our memories. However, with the digitization of photography, many images accumulate in our camera rolls and are often lost. Yet, lost memories can be revived at unexpected moments by the scent of a place.
Shimasaki attempts to express these intersecting moments of 'memory and place' through photography. This exhibition reconsiders the connection between memory and place through the power of photography and presents new possibilities for digital photography.
INFORMATION
Born in 1997 in Kochi Prefecture. After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Matsuyama University, he has been working as a photographer based in Tokyo since 2022. His work explores the theme of 'the connection between the scent of a place and memory', delving into the connection between the invisible scent (memory) of specific places and his own memories through his work. At the core of his work is a reverence for nature and the memories of his hometown where he was born and raised. Currently, he creates works by moving his body to various places while based in Tokyo.

Message to Convey
Photography has a deep connection with memory, and through capturing a moment, past memories are revived in the mind. In this exhibition, I will fuse multiple memories from the photo data left in my camera roll, connecting the past and future from a new perspective.
The previous exhibition 'TOKYO UTOPIA' recreated the image of Tokyo. This time, it's not just about recreating illusions or fantasies that come to mind, but about creating a new form where intense moments of memory engraved in our minds are tied to concrete spaces. I hope visitors will feel the sensation of memory particles intersecting with places and reviving.
With the help of digital techniques, this exhibition offers an intriguing rediscovery of the mysterious power of photography. Experience the ever-evolving world of Shimasaki's works.
