Low Vision

Low Vision refers to a condition where visual impairment due to various causes leads to difficulties in daily life, such as 'difficulty seeing', 'glare', or 'narrow field of vision making it hard to walk'. It is estimated that there are 1.45 million people in Japan and 250 million worldwide with this condition.

Camera Utilizing Retinal Projection Technology

From a new initiative by Sony Corporation and QD Laser Inc. to support the creative aspirations of low vision individuals, the 'RETISSA NEOVIEWER', a viewfinder utilizing laser retinal projection technology, and Sony's digital still camera 'Cyber-shot DSC-HX99' have been combined to develop the 'DSC-HX99 RNV kit'. The price of the 'DSC-HX99 RNV kit' is 109,800 yen (including tax). Due to the product's characteristics, which vary in visibility from person to person, it can only be purchased by those who have experienced the product at Sony's directly managed stores.

Projecting the Scene Captured by the Camera onto the Retina for Photos and Videos

The 'DSC-HX99 RNV kit' uses a laser retinal projection method that is less affected by the eye's focusing ability, allowing the scene captured by the camera to be projected directly onto the retina, making it easier for low vision individuals to take photos and videos.

This groundbreaking technology not only provides a unique photographic experience with features like high zoom but also offers a new visual experience through retinal projection independent of eyesight.

Project Transforming 'Invisible' to 'Visible'

The project 'With My Eyes' aims to enable low vision individuals to observe and capture wonderful moments with their own eyes using the 'DSC-HX99 RNV kit'. It is not about turning the 'minus to zero' for low vision but about providing 'positive value to life'.

Camera technology innovation supports low vision individuals by providing opportunities for new visual experiences through advanced recognition mechanisms, exploring positive value. It is indeed a prime example of the positive impact of technological advancement!
