Mission

The theme for this contest is "Backlighting." People, flowers, dogs, buildings, clouds, waves, trees, others, the self. Everything becomes silhouetted in light, revealing outlines and forming a complete image, shaping their existence. This is not about front or side lighting, but rather the photographer facing light directly, "backlighting." Facing light head-on also means confronting oneself. This is not an easy feat. Clear light illuminates the gloomy shadows of oneself and others, exposing everything in broad daylight. Yet, the mercy of light can also strengthen the recognition of the existence of oneself and others. It feels as though the photographer is capturing themselves while shooting their subject. Whether it's the sun, streetlights, a flash, or a campfire, the source of light doesn't matter. Follow the light you trust and illuminate yourself.
