Sony has released the latest firmware for the mirrorless camera 'α9 III'. The announcement date is June 20, 2024. The version number is 2.01.
Improved Exposure Issues and Operational Stability at Small Apertures
Sony has addressed the issue of underexposure during continuous shooting with apertures smaller than F18. Additionally, operational stability has been enhanced.

World's First Global Shutter in 'α9 III'
The 'α9 III' is a mirrorless camera equipped with a 35mm full-frame image sensor. It features the stacked CMOS 'Exmor RS' with approximately 24.6 million effective pixels, adopting a global shutter system that allows simultaneous exposure of all pixels. This overcomes the rolling shutter distortion typical of CMOS sensors.
The mechanical shutter, previously retained for strobe photography in the predecessor 'α9 II', has been removed. The shutter speed reaches up to 1/80,000 seconds (up to 1/16,000 seconds during video shooting, using high-resolution shutter, without lens, in continuous shooting with settings brighter than F1.8). Furthermore, it achieves blackout-free continuous shooting at approximately 120 frames per second.
