Leica Camera Japan Co., Ltd. has announced the compact digital camera 'Leica D-LUX8'. The announcement date is May 23, 2024. The expected release date is around July 2024.
Leica has unveiled a new model in the 'D-LUX' series, a lens-integrated camera featuring a 4/3 type CMOS sensor. About 20 years after the debut of the first model, the new 'D-LUX8' has evolved further from the previous 'D-LUX7' (released in December 2018). It is crafted into a compact and user-friendly form, embodying Leica's unique expertise.
High-Performance Image Sensor and Zoom Lens
The new model 'D-LUX8' is equipped with an image sensor with an effective pixel count of 17 million pixels (total pixel count of 21 million), similar to the previous model. It continues to use the 'Leica DC Vario-Summilux f1.7-2.8/10.9-34mm ASPH.' lens, with a focal length equivalent to 24-75mm in 35mm format. For the first time in the series, it supports recording in DNG (RAW) format and allows seamless connection with the 'Leica FOTOS' app.
Improved Usability and New Accessories
The user interface of the 'D-LUX8' is inspired by the Leica Q series, which features a full-frame sensor. The number of operation buttons on the back has been reduced, resulting in a simple design that enhances usability.
On the top of the body, there is an independent power button and an improved shutter speed dial. Additionally, an external flash is included, and new dedicated accessories such as a handgrip, carrying strap, wrist strap, and leather camera protector are available in various color variations.
