Sony has released the latest firmware for mirrorless cameras α1, α7S III, and α7 IV. The announcement date is March 28, 2024.

Verification of Image Authenticity

The three models now support the C2PA format, allowing image authenticity information to be embedded as a digital signature. This update enables verification of whether an image is a capture of a 3D object or generated from other images or videos, while also retaining the editing history.

By providing authenticity camera solutions to media organizations, it contributes to combating fake images.

The α9 III is also planned to support C2PA. Additionally, enhancements in shooting functions, efficient file transfer via FTP, and direct upload to cloud services have improved the workflow from shooting to sharing.

α1 (Ver.2.00)

The latest update adds support for Creators' App and Monitor & Control, offering a more user-friendly and convenient experience.

Shooting functions have been further expanded, including relay playback between media, breathing compensation, and synchronized shooting with main and sub-cameras, enhancing functionality. Additionally, improvements in focus frame display and stabilization have created a more advanced shooting environment.

FTP transfer and network functions have also been enhanced, allowing direct upload to Creators' Cloud, automatic FTP transfer scheduling for videos and still images, and prioritized image transfer, enabling more efficient data management. Furthermore, the addition of secure protocols and improved security have enhanced data safety.

α7S III (Ver.3.00)

Similar to the α1, it supports Creators' App and Monitor & Control, with significantly enhanced shooting functions. It supports relay playback, breathing compensation, DCI 4K (4,096×2,160) and 24.00p recording, and improved filtering functions during image playback. A single folder can store up to 9,999 images.

FTP transfer features have been enhanced, with direct upload to Creators' Cloud and the addition of secure protocols (SFTP). Security improvements are also seen, particularly with support for WPA3-SAE in wireless LAN.

Further improvements include enhanced timecode and exposure stability during video recording, as well as improved functionality and operational stability.

α7 IV (Ver.3.00)

Supports network streaming. Additionally, images from the camera can be directly uploaded to Creators' Cloud, and Wi-Fi signal strength is now displayed.

The number of images that can be recorded in a single folder has been expanded to a maximum of 9,999, and it now supports the C2PA format. Custom grid lines can also be displayed.

Finally, issues such as the timecode not being retained when the power is turned off/on and problems with certain custom key operations causing reboots have been resolved. Exposure stability with extended ISO during video recording has been improved, and operational stability has been enhanced.
