Tamron Co., Ltd. announces the super telephoto zoom lens '150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057)' for full-frame mirrorless cameras compatible with Nikon Z mount. Release date is October 31, 2023. Expected price is 198,000 yen (including tax).

The 150-500mm F5-6.7 combines a 500mm focal length on the telephoto side with compact size and high image quality across the zoom range. It features a linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) and a proprietary vibration compensation mechanism VC (Vibration Compensation) to support handheld shooting in the telephoto range.

Breaking the Norm with a Compact Full-Frame Super Telephoto 500mm

The 150-500mm F5-6.7 covers the super telephoto range of 500mm while achieving an astonishingly compact size with a length of 212.3mm and a maximum diameter of φ93mm. Even when extended to the telephoto end of 500mm, it maintains a length of approximately 287.3mm, offering excellent mobility.

The lens construction consists of 16 groups and 25 elements. By using one XLD lens, five LD lenses, and two composite aspherical lenses effectively, it thoroughly suppresses various aberrations, including axial chromatic aberration.

Unique Mechanisms Supporting Handheld Shooting in the Telephoto Range

Adopting the linear motor focus mechanism VXD, it operates extremely fast and accurately while ensuring high responsiveness. Even in super telephoto shooting at a focal length of 500mm, it allows comfortable focusing from close-up to distant scenes without stress, with high focus tracking performance, enabling quick adaptation to various shooting scenarios. Compared to conventional drive systems, the linear motor generates less vibration during AF drive and is quieter, making it ideal for still photography and video recording in quiet environments.

The vibration compensation mechanism VC supports more stable image creation, demonstrating excellent correction effects against blurring and efficiently reducing image blurring due to camera shake. It is effective not only for handheld shooting without a tripod but also in low-light scenes such as evening or indoor photography.
