14 Palms
'14 Palms' is a global online photo contest hosted by cizucu, open to any creator registered with cizucu. The contest aims to curate outstanding works from submissions, discover new talents as a platform, and support the community.
The theme this time is within a 'Focal Length of 1m'.
In photography, focal length is not just about physical distance but is also deeply connected to psychological distance. Whether it's people, animals, plants, or inanimate objects, without interest, understanding, affection, or mutual relationships, one cannot choose to photograph at a close distance.
Are you familiar with the word 'palm'?
In old England, a palm was a unit of measurement using the width of a human hand. Although it varies among individuals, 1 palm = approximately 7.4 cm, and 14 palms = about 1 meter.
We are looking for works that embody the relationship of a 14 Palm focal length. Don't overthink it; just try shooting a little closer than usual!
We look forward to seeing your wonderful works!

The photo doesn't fit the conventional composition rules, and the flash hitting the child, causing overexposure, and the blurriness from being too close, all seem endearing. It's likely that this photo is a testament to the everyday relationship between the photographer and the child.

Judging by the blur, it might be a telephoto prime lens, but the effort to capture the closer image of the frog is commendable. Only someone who wants to know more about you can get this close, and since the subject is a living being, it can sense that...

The rings of age, the dignity, are impressive. The photo captures the wrinkles and cracks in detail, allowing us to imagine the towering tree it once was. Perhaps the photographer felt this, which is why they captured it at this distance.

Great sense of distance. It seems like the photo was taken spontaneously as the subject approached, rather than being waited for. Was the subject interested in the photographer, or did the photographer pique its interest? It's not a cautious distance, so perhaps something broke down the barriers.

It's too close to see the face, but that's okay. It's not a photo meant for others to see. The relationship is conveyed beautifully. The fact that the photographer chose to capture a close friend at this moment already achieves something significant. The more personal a photo is, the better, in my opinion.
