Creators who love photography share their stories with their cameras. The existence of a "beloved camera" reflects each person's life perspective and values. In this series, Tsubasa Manufacturing, who loves the PENTAX K-1 Mark II, makes an appearance.
At the end of 2024, while reflecting on a year's worth of photographic works, I realized the changes in urban landscapes and technological advancements. The joy of discovering new expressions through re-envisioning and retouching the same subjects is something that photography enthusiasts can relate to. Based on the insights gained last year, I will talk about my ever-evolving new photographic activities from my own perspective.
PENTAX K-1 Mark II Basic Information
Equipped with an effective approximately 36.4 megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, it achieves high-sensitivity shooting up to ISO 819200 through the combination of an accelerator unit and the PRIME IV image processing engine.
Additionally, with the Pixel Shift Resolution System II, high-resolution images can be obtained even with handheld shooting. The 5-axis shake reduction mechanism "SR II" allows for stable shooting in various scenes. Furthermore, features such as an optical viewfinder that provides a bright and wide field of view and a flexible tilt LCD monitor enhance the convenience for photographers.
A Year of Continuous Change
At the end of 2024, when I reviewed the works taken over the year, there were urban landscapes that had changed significantly during this period. Since the latter half of 2024, I have significantly changed the color tones of my works, so I tried re-envisioning and retouching them again to see how they would change. I would like to introduce the insights gained from reflecting on 2024.

The City Keeps Changing
In Tokyo, redevelopment plans are underway in multiple locations, and tower cranes are constantly in sight. Reflecting on the works, there are records of buildings that have disappeared and those that have been completed, allowing me to reaffirm the importance and value of photography as a "medium for recording history."

Changes in Color Tones
Based on the PENTAX custom image "Satobi," I have applied unique parameter adjustments, settling on the current color tones. One of the characteristics is the significant reduction in saturation.

For some reason, I no longer feel comfortable with vibrant color tones. It seems that preferences for color tones may change again over time.
Advancements in Erasure Technology
When I retouched again, I noticed that AI erasure technology has significantly advanced even in the past year.

Previously, the supplemented images would sometimes have repetitive patterns like those created with a stamp tool, causing discomfort. In the latest version, even things like cobblestones or wall tiles, which would feel unnatural if the patterns didn't connect, are beautifully supplemented, making me feel "confident in erasing."
Advancements in Noise Reduction Technology
This too, with AI technology (probably machine learning), is at a completely different level from traditional noise reduction. It makes me feel that works I had previously discarded can be revived. I want to keep RAW data, hoping for future technology.
