Nikon Completes Acquisition of RED, Anticipation for Product Development Post-NAB2024 | Release #110
Nikon Officially Completes Acquisition of RED, Raising Expectations for Next-Generation Cinema Technology
Nikon has announced the official completion of its acquisition of digital cinema camera company RED.
The announcement was made on March 7, 2024. The acquisition took place just before the NAB 2024 (National Association of Broadcasters) exhibition, and under the new structure, RED's management is expected to continue playing a crucial role.
RED founders James Jannard and President Jarred Land will serve as 'advisors' at Nikon, allowing their expertise in cinema imaging technology to continue being utilized.
The role of advisors is to bridge the unique culture and values of RED with Nikon's new technologies and product development, leveraging extensive resources and technical capabilities. This combination is expected to enable both companies to meet market demands and lead new trends in imaging technology.
Respecting Both Cultures, Nikon Advances Imaging with RED's Technology
Through this acquisition, Nikon aims to enhance its imaging capabilities by leveraging RED's cutting-edge technology and reputation in digital cinematography. Keiji Oishi, who is from Nikon and currently CEO of RED, along with Co-CEO Tommy Rios, stated, 'As representatives of RED, we will continue to explore the market while respecting the corporate cultures and values of both RED and Nikon.'
Assurance of Continued Products and Services Post-RED Acquisition
Despite the change in ownership, RED will maintain its current product lineup, partnerships, and dealer relationships. All existing product warranties and services will continue as before, ensuring stability for existing customers.
Looking ahead, Nikon and RED are exploring the potential to combine their expertise to develop distinctive products and gain a larger market share in the rapidly growing digital cinema industry. However, the financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed at this time.
