Photographer Herbie Yamaguchi Appointed as New Principal, Shares Message | Japan Institute of Photography and Film

The Kure Gakuen Educational Foundation has announced the appointment of renowned photographer Herbie Yamaguchi as the new principal of the Japan Institute of Photography and Film. The appointment date is April 1, 2024.

Herbie Yamaguchi has contributed to the growth of students for over 20 years through special lectures at the school. Recognizing the importance of talent, experience, and passion for education in nurturing the next generation of creators, he has taken on the role of principal. Additionally, photographer Masami Kuramochi has been appointed as vice-principal.

Born in 1950 in Tokyo, Herbie Yamaguchi is one of Japan's leading photographers, known for his monochrome snap portraits, beloved by many fans.

I am honored to be appointed as principal. While this is a school for learning photography, I believe it is equally important to learn about humanity. If you possess essential human qualities, you will succeed in any field in the future.
Learning, maintaining curiosity, being humble, being polite, being helpful to others, and living a life where you can fully express your individuality... While exploring photography is important, I aim to create a school where you can also learn about life.
