Canon Inc. announced on June 29, 2023, that the release date for the smallest and lightest prime lens in the 'EOS R System' interchangeable 'RF lens' series, the 'RF28mm F2.8 STM', is July 7, 2023. The price is 48,400 yen (tax included). The separately sold lens hood 'EW-55' will also be released on the same day.
This product, which was scheduled for release in early July 2023, is the first pancake-type thin lens in the RF lens series that combines excellent portability and imaging performance, compatible with 35mm full-frame. Enjoy the brightness and bokeh unique to prime lenses.
Pancake Lens Achieving the Smallest and Lightest in the RF Lens Series
By placing three large-diameter, high-precision plastic molded aspherical lenses in front of the CMOS sensor, the number of lens elements is minimized, achieving compactness while providing excellent imaging performance from the center to the periphery. With a maximum diameter of approximately φ69.2mm, a total length of approximately 24.7mm (when stored), and a weight of approximately 120g, it is the smallest and lightest design in the RF lens series.
Versatile Focal Length for a Wide Range of Shooting Scenes
When mounted on a full-frame camera, it functions as a wide-angle lens with a focal length of 28mm, offering a wide field of view and moderately emphasized perspective, making it suitable for a wide range of shooting scenes such as snapshots and landscape photography. Furthermore, when mounted on an APS-C size camera, it functions as a standard lens equivalent to a focal length of 45mm, utilizing a natural perspective close to human vision and an appropriate distance from the subject, making it useful for portraits, food photography, table photos, and various other subjects.
